It is known that Binbir Kilise, located on the skirts of Karadağ, 50 kilometers north of Karaman, became the most important religious center of the region during the Byzantine period. The region, which was also considered sacred during the Hittite period, was considered one of the three most important religious centers in Christianity, where pilgrims from Europe to Jerusalem visited in the late antique period. The Binbir Kilise region, a significant portion of which consists of tomb structures, contains many churches, monasteries, monumental tombs and historical structures.
