During the excavation works initiated by Tarsus Municipality to build a toilet in Makam-ı Danyal Mosque, an arched structure was discovered and a rescue excavation was carried out by Tarsus Museum between 2006-2007.[1]

As a result of the excavations, arches and a bridge dating back to the Roman Period were found, and the arches are part of a large Roman bridge built in the 1st century AD.[2]

A mausoleum structure with a quadrangular plan, 7 windows on the south and east, and a vaulted dome of the monastery dating back to the 2th century, was unearthed to the north of the bridge, and vaulted graves in the narthex were unearthed. The block stone on the east side of the mausoleum has a seven-pointed star relief on its surface. The restoration work on Makam-ı Danyal Mosque has been completed and opened to visitors. [1]
