There is no inscription on the mosque, and the exact date of its construction is unknown, but during the population exchange that took place in 1922-23, it was converted from the Paragia-Pazariotissa church into a mosque and took its current name. Later, a minaret was built on the northeast corner of the mosque, and it was closed to worship for a while due to moderate damage in the earthquake of August 17, 1999.
