It was built in 1899. The mosque, whose architect was Yuvan Kalfa, was opened for worship in 1902. It is accepted as the Selatin Mosque because the construction costs were covered by the Hamidiye Warehouses.

It was built by laying down its foundations with a glorious will on the nineteenth day of August 1316, in accordance with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the accession to the throne of the great sultan and crown prince, the honorable Sultan Ibn Sultan, the Ghazi Abdulhamid Khan II.
