In the village’s oral history and local accounts, this building is regarded as “the first middle school to open in a village in Turkey.” The building remained in continuous use until 1995. When the school moved to a new, modern 12-classroom campus built in another part of the village in 1994, this historic building, constructed in 1936, was left to its fate. Today, its roof has collapsed, and it lies in ruins.1
