The name "Broken Bridge" comes from the ruins of an old bridge 95 m below the river. The Red Bridge was built by Azerbaijani architects in the 12th century.
The only multi-span bridge in Arran that has preserved its original structure is the Red Bridge. This magnificent monument, thrown across the Khramchay on the old caravan route, is also known as the “Broken Bridge” and is widely studied as a 12th century monument.
The presence of large caravanserais on the coastal areas indicates that the bridge was of great importance on the caravan route and was also one of the important trade centers in the surrounding area. In general, the bridge-caravanserai union has become one of the successful construction projects of Azerbaijan and neighboring Islamic countries.
