The mosque, which was commissioned by Grand Vizier Rüstem Pasha (d. 1561) and completed around 1563, has an eight-columned design and is located in Tahtakale, where trade and craft functions are concentrated. It is equipped with a complex consisting of vaulted warehouses designed on its ground floor, shops, a fountain and two caravanserais. It is the work of Sinan and is particularly notable for its rich decorative program consisting of İznik tiles.
