On December 13, 1635, Sultan Murad IV, returning from the Revan campaign, stayed in Çerkeş for about 8 hours and ordered Silahtar Mustafa Pasha to build a mosque there. Completed in 1638 and known as the Muradiye Mosque, it underwent repairs during the reign of Abdul Hamid and was completely destroyed in the 1944 earthquake. The present mosque was built on its foundations in 1953.
