Armenians began settling in Kandilli from the end of the 18th century. Since there was no permanent building, they worshipped under a tent. According to information obtained from two inscriptions, the community had a place of worship in 1841.
The current church was built in 1846 under the leadership of Boghos Amira Ashnanyan. The church, which was opened for worship during the time of Patriarch Matteos II. Chuhaciyan, was renovated in 1893 with the efforts of the stove chief Parsegh Aga Ghazarosyan. In 1962, it was repaired with the charity of the brothers Hovhannes and Harutyun Kupelyan. The church, which underwent another repair in 1985, and its distinctive bell tower are made of wood. The walls of the Baptistery are decorated with colored porcelain.
The last restoration of the church was carried out in 2012 and it was consecrated by the Patriarchal Vicar Archbishop Aram Ateşyan and opened for worship.
